Celebrated as a cultural, creative and culinary destination, Footscray (and its nearby neighbour, West Footscray) is the heart of the Inner West and an essential stop on any Melbourne visitor’s itinerary.

Once a centre for southern European migrants, Footscray and West Footscray, have evolved to home communities from right across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America. It’s primarily thanks to these diverse and thriving migrant communities that the area has become one of Melbourne's most vibrant and inviting. Footscray’s bustling centre abounds with street art, distinctive bars and food to suit every taste and budget. Central to Footscray’s justly famous food culture is the iconic Footscray Market, right opposite Footscray Station. Here you’ll find all manner of affordable fresh produce, general goods, as well as more exotic and hard-to-find ingredients. Pack a picnic and head for the nearby Maribyrnong River with its adjoining reserves, wetlands, river trails and the expansive Footscray Park, home to many community festivals and events, as well as the most intact Edwardian period public garden in Victoria.
