Nestled within the historic Werribee Park, Shadowfax Winery stands as a testament to 25 years of dedication to crafting exceptional wines. The heart of Shadowfax’s legacy lies in its commitment to regionality and the passionate individuals who shape its wines, particularly Chief Winemaker Alister Timms.

Alister’s story is deeply intertwined with the vine. Growing up amidst the vineyards of the Bellarine Peninsula (on the estate that is now Jack Rabbit winery), he absorbed the rhythms of viticulture from a young age. This early immersion began a lifelong passion, leading him to pursue formal studies in science and oenology. Today, Alistair’s dedication and connection to the land is reflected in every bottle of Shadowfax wine.

Shadowfax’s philosophy centers on showcasing the unique terroirs of its vineyards. From the cool-climate elegance of Macedon Ranges to the distinctive character of Werribee’s K Road Shiraz, Alister and his team meticulously nurture each vineyard. The iconic Little Hampton vineyard in Macedon Ranges, with its high altitude and unique soil composition, yields Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris of exceptional complexity and finesse.

Alister’s “vineyard to glass” approach is evident in his unwavering commitment to quality. He believes that every decision, from vineyard management to winemaking techniques, should reflect the true character of the fruit. This dedication is what makes Shadowfax’s wines so compelling.

The heart of Shadowfax isn’t just in its vineyards; it’s also in the immersive (extremely delicious!) experiences offered at the cellar door and restaurant.

Shadowfax invites you to taste and purchase the range of wines on offer at the cellar door. The friendly team provides an informative overview and offers advice on the best food to serve with each wine. You can extend your visit and stay for lunch, enjoying the Mediterranean-inspired menu served in the restaurant. The delicious antipasto and cheese plates, wood-fired pizzas, and desserts perfectly complement Shadowfax's wines.

As Shadowfax marks its 25th year, it’s not just a celebration of time, but a celebration of the journey, the terroir, and the unwavering dedication of its Chief Winemaker.
